It's Not Too Late for Flu Vaccine!
Influenza is back! After an initial peak in January, flu is rising again in Massachusetts and around the country. The amount of flu and other respiratory illnesses in our community is higher than at any time in the last five years. The surge is expected to continue for at least the next several weeks.
If you or your child(ren) have not received an influenza vaccine this past fall or winter, we encourage you to get one now. Although ideally the vaccine is recommended for the fall to help prevent even the earliest cases of the season, it is not too late to protect your family from the current outbreak. Even if you have already had the flu this season, we still recommend a flu vaccine because there are several strains of flu that circulate each winter.
Although the vaccine certainly does not prevent all cases of influenza, there is good evidence that the vaccine helps to make the illness less severe in people who do get the flu after vaccination.
Please call our office if you would like to schedule an appointment for the flu vaccine.
Did You Know?
February is National Children's Dental Health Month. Developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children to get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.
Immunizations
Winter has arrived and vaccine preventable illnesses are on the rise! We’d like to take this opportunity to share some thoughts on immunizations with our Framingham Pediatrics family.
Disease and injury prevention are at the core of what we do as pediatricians. All of us at Framingham Pediatrics feel strongly about the benefits of immunizations, and we endorse the schedule updated annually by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Experts agree that immunizations are among the greatest public health advances of the 20th century.
The CDC estimates that vaccines have prevented more than 1 million deaths in children in the United States in the last ten years. Vaccines are safe! Vaccines, like medicines, can have some side effects. But most people who get vaccinated have only mild side effects or none at all. Mild reactions usually go away on their own within a few days. Serious, long-lasting side effects are extremely rare. Vaccines are essential to the prevention of illness and have an important benefit to the larger community. We can help protect ourselves and people who cannot get vaccinated due to age or illness to guarantee safety from vaccine preventable diseases.

THANK YOU!
To our many, many families who have seen our requests around the office and by email to please complete our questionnaires on MyChart before you come to the office for your appointment! These surveys really do help us to provide better and more efficient care to our patients and families, and they are most helpful when completed prior to your visit. Please reach out to our wonderful team if we can help you in any way with this request.
